Reaccreditation: an opportunity to reflect on the last five years of editing

I’m happy to announce that I have passed the reaccreditation requirements of the Institute of Professional Editors.

The reaccreditation process gave me a satisfying opportunity to reflect on my first five years as an accredited editor.

Five highlights I’m proud of that represent those five years are:

• I have copyedited and assessed books that went on to be picked up by traditional publishers and I sometimes see my friends (who have no idea that I was involved) post about those books!

• I have worked with clients all over Australia, as well as some clients in Europe and Asia.

• My confidence and capacity as an editor have grown and I am now offering manuscript assessments as well as copyediting, and the feedback from clients about the assessments has been wonderful.

• I’ve developed and presented workshops for writers with my colleague and friend Lu Sexton, and we have hosted workshops at writers festivals, like Clunes Booktown Festival.

• I’ve worked constructively and compassionately with clients with different needs, including neurodiverse clients and those dealing with trauma.

 So, I’m officially accredited for another five years and I welcome enquiries about:

• manuscript assessments for novels and memoir

• editing annual reports and strategies for government and NGO clients, including editing for plain language

• copyediting all of the above

• copywriting and co-writing.
